Teamwork Design is an expert in designing unique concepts for play areas and play equipment. We work with architects and landscape architects, but also with private developers and equipment manufacturers.

A great example of a unique play concept, is the design that was created for Dundee's Whale Song Park.
Teamwork Design worked together with OPEN Landscape Architects, Light Alliance and Kersten Europe to create the concept for a unique Whale themed play environment for Waterfront Gardens, right next to Dundee's Victoria & Albert museum.

This project presented a fantastic opportunity to create a dynamic, interactive play experience on the Dundee waterfront. The design concept recognises the tension between art and play, bringing them together to create a unique play experience and destination.

The bold form of the Humpback whale provides a dramatic and unique landmark as a draw for people. A rich programme of play allows people from all ages and abilities to explore and interact with the sculpture in a space that is designed to intrigue, challenge and inspire. The play elements will be largely contained within the whale sculpture, allowing it to remain a pure form.

The addition of the Play Whale to Dundee's Waterfront Gardens will make the waterfront an attractive destination for all ages.
Exciting interactive and accessible play opportunities create a fantastic experience for children of all abilities.
This world class design blends physical and sensory play naturally together in an impressive piece of art.

The whale structure provides an framework which can be used to attach features such as netting and slides, offering traditional play activities in a unique and exciting form. The netting and ropes allow exploration and play, with different areas focussing on different levels of abilities.
The 'ground' around and within the sculpture is wheelchair accessible and includes interactive play elements featuring light, sound and water.
The semi transparent structure and the choice of materials emphasise the artistic quality as well as the play value of the sculpture.
The Surf Spinner is a very popular product among teenagers. They can run, jump and surf the waves with their friends. The slant of the post makes it possible to start moving without pushing off and the spinner can be propelled by using centrifugal force.

The play elements are either accommodated within the whale sculpture, or located within the wider play park.
The wider play park features a 'baby whale' which provides fun play activities for younger children. The baby whale is a smaller structure that children can climb on and slide off. From within the baby whale, smaller children can communicate with their bigger siblings, friends or parents in the big whale.

Other elements include giant kelp connected with ropes, flush mounted trampolines and rubber safety surfacing that is profiled to represent the sea, formed into mounds and ripples. This adds a dynamic aspect to the playful nature of the space, whilst providing a great setting for the impressive whale structure.
